Prompt #10: Ahhhh, and so the road ends here, tear.

Dear ENC 1101 sections and 1102 sections:

One of the perks of teaching college is that I get to meet new minds and see fresh faces every 4 months. But one of the down sides of teaching college is that it goes by so very fast.

It has been a great semester getting to know all of you this semester (or seeing you all over again if you were in a previous semester with me). My hope is that I have equipped you all with the tools that you need to go on with your undergraduate studies to be strong critical thinkers who are intrigued and enticed to ask question after question after question, because with questions comes research and with research comes solutions and new ideas.

As you have become critical thinkers you have in turn become stronger writers, and we did a lot of writing. I would like to think that most of you have walked away with a better appreciation for the art of writing, but most imporatantly, the art of rhetoric. Now that you know the techniques involved in argument, whether it be to persuade, inform or entertain, you now understand the importance of knowing who your audience is, what your purpose is, how to appeal to your audience through the use of logos, ethos and pathos, what kinds of claims can be used, and how not to commit a fallacy.

I hope you have had as enjoyable of an experience as I have, but if not, that is perfectly understandable, just make sure you can provide evidence for why you didn't. Leave me a post on your blog as your adieu letting me know some of you favorite moments, least favorite, activities you liked the best, or would have liked to see more of, what didn't work for you, what did, and ultimately how you feel today, at the end of the semester, as a writer.

I'm sure I will catch you all around campus, don't be shy, say hello, don't write anything about me on Juicycampus.com since we all agree it's not a website worth our intellectual time (use pickaprof.com instead; has much more credibility to it), and don't ever stop questioning anything!

Make sure to post up and email your url to me by midnight Friday or become one of my ROADIES here on my blog so I have easy access to your blog. Good luck with your future endeavors!

disappear ..

disappear. Scary word right? At least to me its pretty scary. Imagine one day waking up and someone you loved just "disappeared". Bam, just like that. Well every day someone new disappears, whether its intentionally or not. I have heard so many different endings to a disappearance. Recently, i heard about a girl named Maura Murray. Her car was found abandoned, crashed against a tree. Inside her car were a few things such as food, books and liquor. She has a family that loved her and a fiance. She DISAPPEARED and no one knows where or with who? She emailed professors telling them she'd be missing a few days because there was a "death" in the family, there wasnt. She had everything planned, but where was she going? Shes been missing since Feb of 2004. I'd be divistated if i were one of her family members, it sucks.

How would they go on every day without thinking of her. Is she alive? dead? suffering? No one knows. I try to put myself in there position and i dont see myself bieng okay without someone i love. Whats puzzling is that she was a great student, her family and fiance loved her and there was no sign of any type of depression. She seemed normal and then vanished. If i have a milliong and one questions imagine her family. How can after so long this case still be cold? Its just a sad story along with so many other disappearances.

So is there any way of preventing a disappearance? I think if you actually want to disappear, obviously, there is no way of preventing that. You just pack up and go. But if you dont wan, always let your family know where you are, call before going anywhere, if your going to be gone for "x" amouny of time and somewhere you'v never been, take someone with you. Theres just so many things that can be done and at the moment you dont think of it. Its like you turn around for a second and the next someone could be gone. Thats how younger kids "disappear". There parents turn and when they look back... gone. Thats all it takes, one time to turn your back. Theres no easy way to disappear. Theres no happy ending in disappearing..

so the point of this blog was too make it aware people of all ages disappear. Sometimes purposely other times forced.. Be aware of your surroudings... be aware of EVERYTHING. Im not trying to scare anyone just trying to make a scary problem known.
